Northern lights trip for families in Rovaniemi

Your family adventure begins with pickups from selected accommodations or meeting at the Rovaniemi Insider office in central Rovaniemi. Before departure, everyone is provided with warm winter clothing to ensure a comfortable evening outdoors.

After gearing up, we take a short drive away from the city lights to our private Northern Lights viewing location. The route is designed to minimize travel time, making the experience especially comfortable for families and young children.

Upon arrival, your guide lights the bonfire inside a traditional Finnish kota, creating a warm and atmospheric place to relax throughout the evening. The location also features a separate heated building with indoor toilets for added comfort and convenience.

While waiting for the Aurora Borealis to appear, families can enjoy a variety of fun winter activities. Children can play on the sledding hill, try the “napakelkka” spinning carousel and “potkurirata” kicksled track, decorate a snow wall, meet friendly reindeer, or even test snowshoes in the snowy surroundings.

Gather around the fire inside the kota to enjoy a relaxed outdoor-style barbecue with grilled sausages, marshmallows, cookies, chocolates, hot drinks, and snacks. Throughout the evening, the open surroundings provide excellent opportunities for spotting the Northern Lights in a peaceful Arctic setting.

After a memorable evening filled with winter fun, cozy moments, and hopefully aurora sightings, we begin the return journey to Rovaniemi. Guests are then dropped off at their accommodation or the office, ending a magical family experience in Lapland.
